Inmate found hanging in jail cell

A 28-year-old inmate at the Shreveport City Jail died at LSU Hospital after he was found hanging in his jail cell.

Jade Johnson of Shreveport was arrested Feb. 14 on a charge of simple battery for a domestic incident involving his girlfriend.

A jailer was making his routine checks when he discovered Johnson. He got help to cut Johnson down, and paramedics with the Shreveport Fire Department then transported him to the hospital where he later died.

The incident occurred after 10 p.m. Friday night. Johnson’s family was notified early this morning.

It appears the inmate committed suicide, but an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

"We’re going to be investigating it, just like we investigate everything else," Police Chief Jim Roberts said. "There is going to be an investigation, but it’s going to take some time."

Detectives Todd Eatman and C.H. Andrews are investigating the case.

No other information about the incident can be released at this time.
