Police Department not conducting phone fundraiser

Telephone solicitors raising money for two local police unions are not representing the Shreveport Police Department, Police Chief Jim Roberts said today.

Roberts said citizens should understand that the city's police department will never solicit funds over the phone. While an ongoing fundraiser is being conducted by the Shreveport and Bossier police associations, their efforts do not directly impact the Shreveport Police Department or its budget, Roberts said. The union fundraiser is being conducted by paid telephone solicitors, not Shreveport or Bossier police officers.

Roberts said citizens who receive calls from solicitors should listen closely to the message, andcontact their local law enforcement agency if they have any questions about who their donations will benefit.
