Pumpkins donated to local schools

Queensborough/Ingleside Weed and Seed and Super 1 Foods donated 140 pumpkins to six Shreveport schools today.

The schools that received the pumpkins were Midway Middle School, Judson Elementary, Lakeshore Elementary, Queensborough Elementary, Claiborne Elementary and Werner Park Elementary.

Each of the schools will use the pumpkins as part of their Halloween celebrations. Here are some of the planned events:

* Werner Park will hold a carving contest at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

* Judson will hold a carving contest at 1 p.m. Monday, with the winning home room getting a soda and popcorn party.

* Queensborough will have pumpkin decorating at 10 a.m. Monday.

* Claiborne will distribute pumpkins to individual classrooms and allow teachers to work with students in carving them Monday and Tuesday.

* Midway Middle School will have individual classrooms carve pumpkins on Tuesday.
