Toys `R Us in Bossier City will open at 6 a.m. Tuesday for residents who would like to shop early and pick up a toy to donate to Operation Santa Claus. Operation Santa Claus is a community policing effort by local law enforcement and firefighting agencies where officers and firefighters nominate children in need to receive a new toy for Christmas. Citizens help fill those Christmas lists by donating new, unwrapped toys. This year, the 16-year-old operation hopes to help a record 2,307 children. However, toys for 1,597 of those children have not yet been acquired. Toys `R Us will offer discounts and specials for those wanting to help out, and KVKI radio will broadcast live from the store that morning. Cash donations and toys are being accepted at the Operation Santa Claus headquarters in West Shreveport. Residents can call 687-GIFT (687-4438) to donate. Agencies participating in Operation Santa Claus are Shreveport Police Department, Shreveport Fire Department, Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, Bossier City Police Department and Bossier City Fire Department.
