No foolin'! SPD to begin insurance checkpoints

    On April 1, the Shreveport Police Department will conduct its first insurance checkpoint to encourage compliance with the state's compulsory insurance law.

        Drivers will be asked to provide proof of compulsory insurance compliance as required by LRS 32:863.1. Drivers who cannot provide proof of insurance will be cited and their Louisiana license plate will be seized. The vehicle will be impounded if further investigation reveals it is not insured.

    Checkpoints will be conducted in all areas of the city for an indefinite period. Locations will not be released in advance. The checkpoints will be conducted by the SPD Traffic Bureau
