Detectives arrest two men in connection with overnight shooting

Shreveport Police detectives have arrested two local men in connection with a shooting in Shreveport’s Cedar Grove neighborhood last night.

At approximately 9:53 p.m. on October 22, 2009, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of W. 86th St. relative to a shooting. Upon arrival there, officers discovered 60 year old George Davis suffering from a serious wound to his head. A short time later, 36 year old Michael Nelson arrived at Schumpert Hospital’s emergency room suffering from what has been described as a non life threatening gunshot wound to his left leg.

Shreveport Police detectives were dispatched to the scene and upon investigation, have learned that Michael Nelson’s brother, 45 year old Tony Nelson, is apparently romantically involved with George Davis’ sister. Tony Nelson was visiting her at George Davis’ home on W. 86th St. when some sort of dispute erupted. Tony Nelson subsequently called his brother Michael Nelson and Michael showed up at the Davis residence allegedly armed with a handgun. The dispute continued just outside the home, where Tony Nelson struck George Davis in the head with a brick. At that time, Davis armed himself with a shotgun as Michael Nelson produced the handgun he was armed with and both men fired at each other. Michael Nelson’s shot missed Davis, striking the house there and Nelson was shot in the left leg. The Nelson brothers fled the scene, with Michael Nelson eventually ending up at Schumpert Hospital.

Detectives have now arrested Tony Nelson, of the 200 block of W. 86th St. in Shreveport and booked him into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of aggravated battery. Michael Nelson was arrested as well and booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of aggravated criminal property damage. Investigators have seized both of the firearms involved in this incident.
