Shreveport Officer to receive National award

Shreveport Police Officer to receive National award on Thursday evening.

Detective Roy Menefee of the Shreveport Police Department's Domestic Violence Unit will receive the 40 and 8 Law Officer of the Year Award for his work in stemming domestic violence in the City of Shreveport.

Det. Menefee has already received 40 and 8's top award for the State. Det. Menefee was scheduled to go to Orlando, Florida to receive his award last month. However due to Hurricane Gustav and the requirement of manning evacuation shelters Det. Menefee was unable to go.

The local 40 and 8 chapter, as well as members of the National 40 and 8 board will present Det. Menefee with his National Award this Thursday at their monthly meeting.

The award ceremony and banquet will be held at 8040 South Lakeshore Dr.

The scheduled events are listed below:

6:00 to 6:30 PM Arrival of special guests

6:45 PM Dinner

7:30 PM Award Presentation.

Detective Roy Menefee has spent more than two decades in Law Enforcement, Including thirteen years in the Shreveport, La. City Marshall's Office and ten years with the Shreveport Police Department. Roy was born and raised in Shreveport, La., graduating from Baptist Christian Academy in 1973. Roy attended Louisiana State University in Shreveport majoring in Criminal Justice form 1973-1975.

As a member of the Domestic Violence Unit, Det. Menefee understand the torment these victims endure and works diligently to make sure those who abuse, beat, harass, stalk and threaten are put behind bars for as long as possible. He has a proven ability to locate and apprehend these violent offenders, so much that other law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies seek his assistance. By utilizing his resources and coordinating efforts with other agencies, he has been able to track down these fugitives and bring them to justice. He is a founding member of the West Louisiana Fugitive apprehension Strike Team (FAST), which is operated by the U.S. Marshal's Service. He has been a member of FAST for more than ten years.

Detective Menefee, a corporal on the Shreveport Police Department, was the 2007 recipient of the Caddo-Bossier Domestic Abuse Task Force's annual Trey Hutchinson Award for his efforts against domestic violence. In 2005, he was honored by the Sons of the American Revolution for his efforts against domestic violence. He was also recognized by the U.S. Marshal's Service in 2005 for his efforts to capture a death row inmate who escaped from Houston, TX. Detective Menefee has received many departmental awards for assisting citizens of Shreveport with juvenile cases and bond jumpers to name just a few.

In 2007, Det. Magnify was credited with 70 personal arrests and played an active roll in preparing warrants for more than 200 others.
