FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Copper Theft Arrest

A routine traffic stop last week nets a wanted felon and solves a string of copper thefts from a nearby construction site.

Patrol units stopped a man they noticed walking out of a wood area in the 1800 block of George W. Carver carrying a large bundle of recently cut copper. Detectives were contacted and after talking to the suspect, relocated to the Northern Heights Housing Project nearby. The suspect told detectives his name was Alonzo Jones.

Officers and Detectives matched the copper in Jones possession to copper at the job site. Jones told detectives he bought the copper from someone on the street.

Jones was taken to the City Jail and booked one count of Theft of Building Material Components and one count of In Possession of Stolen Things.

After Jones was booked into the jail, a routine fingerprint check revealed Alonzo Jones was not Jones, but in fact was Terrance Clark, Black Male DOB 9-27-1973. Clark was also on Parole for several felony convictions. Clark also has warrants out of other jurisdictions for his arrest.

There are 42 homes being built in the Northern Heights location and 41 of them had the copper stolen from them. The loss to the contractors in the Northern Heights Housing Project, during the last two weeks, is about $30,000.00.

Information can be left with Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com.
