FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former Shreveport Police officer arrested following indictment

A former Shreveport Police officer terminated by Chief Henry Whitehorn back in June has been arrested on one count of molestation of a juvenile following his indictment by a Caddo Parish Grand Jury.

Investigators with the Shreveport Police Department received a complaint back on April 21, 2009 relative to inappropriate sexual contact between a Shreveport Police patrol officer and a female juvenile. Chief Whitehorn immediately called for an internal and criminal investigation and on April 28, 2009 Cpl. Ryan Jackson was placed on administrative leave. Jackson was subsequently terminated by Chief Whitehorn on June 24, 2009 for violation of department policies.

Shreveport Police sex crimes investigators continued their criminal investigation and upon completion of that investigation, Chief Whitehorn turned their findings over to Caddo Parish District Attorney Charles Scott. A Caddo Parish Grand Jury has now returned with an indictment charging Ryan Jackson with one count of molestation of a juvenile. Jackson, 30 years old, of the 4100 block of Pines Rd. in Shreveport, has been booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.

Ryan Jackson was hired by the department in September of 2002. Chief Whitehorn commented, “The Shreveport Police Department is a professional law enforcement agency committed to serving the citizens of Shreveport. The men and women of our department are out there working hard every day to serve and protect our communities and when an officer conducts himself in such a manner as to bring disrepute to the badge we are entrusted to wear, it is disappointing and disconcerting. I hold each of my officers to a high standard and I will simply not tolerate misconduct.”
