Man arrested in 5 year old case

Shreveport Police Department has arrested one person and is looking for another in connection with a five-year-old murder case.

Tyrus Johnson, 26, of Shreveport turned himself in for the 2003 shooting death of 74-year-old Charles Ferlito at Ferlito's home in the 5300 block of Fairfax.

The incident occurred about 5:50 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2003. Ferlito answered the door and was subsequently shot by Johnson. The motive is believed to be an attempted armed robbery.

Johnson fled the scene. After leaving the area for several years, he returned to Shreveport recently.

When he arrived at the police department, he gave police information about the case that led to his arrest and said he had a guilty conscious and couldn't take it anymore.

Detectives then began an intense investigation into the shooting to determine all the facts in the case.

As a result, police are looking for another person in connection with this case. Marcus Taylor, 24, of Shreveport is a person of interest. He also has two outstanding arrest warrants for traffic offenses.
