Off duty officer injured in attack An off duty Shreveport Police officer was injured early this morning as the result of an attack. At approximately 1:45 a.m. this morning, off duty Shreveport Police officer Chad Denham was at a business in the 9400 block of Mansfield Rd. called Break-N-Run. The off duty officer, who was not in uniform, was contacted by the owner of the business in reference to a drunk and disorderly patron in the establishment. The owner asked Denham for assistance in escorting the intoxicated patron out of the business. As Denham approached the male subject to escort him out of the business, the man produced two knives and cut the officer across the top of both of his wrists. The suspect then fled the scene of the crime in a vehicle. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital with what has been described as serious injuries, but he is reported to be in good condition. According to witnesses at the scene, Denham never identified himself as a police officer and was simply trying to assist the owner of the business remove a disorderly customer. Officers located the suspect a short time later near the 9300 block of Mansfield Rd. and placed him under arrest. Detectives recovered one of the knives used in the attack and have charged 30 year old Carl Lenord, of the 100 block of Hummingbird Ln. in Stonewall, with one count each of second degree aggravated battery, aggravated assault, entering and remaining after being forbidden, and driving while intoxicated. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.shreveportla.gov |
