Woman shot on Milam Street

Shreveport Police detectives are investigating the shooting of a woman last night on Milam St.

On August 6, 2009, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of Milam relative to a shooting. Upon arrival there, officers discovered 21 year old Dionda Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Smith was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what has been described as serious injuries. She was reported to be in stable condition.

Detectives have learned that Smith and a male acquaintance were walking in the 3600 block of Milam St. when a blue, four door Oldsmobile Delta 88 that had a primer colored hood and driver side front quarter panel pulled up to them and began shooting. Smith was struck once by gunfire.

Detectives have recovered evidence from the crime scene and are working at this time to identify and apprehend the suspect or suspects responsible for this shooting. Anyone with any information regarding this shooting is urged to call Shreveport Police Detective Greg Rudell at 318-673-7020.
