Shreveport Police to hold safety check point

Shreveport Police will hold a safety checkpoint tomorrow in southwest Shreveport.

The checkpoint, which will be held between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. this Thursday, is part of our commitment at the Shreveport Police Department to make the streets of Shreveport safe for everyone. Officers will be checking primarily for compliance with Louisiana’s safety belt law, but will address any other violations that would compromise the safety of our citizens.

Chief of Police Henry Whitehorn noted that these safety checkpoints are an important component of the department’s ongoing efforts to address a serious traffic issue, saying, “It is irrefutable that safety belts save lives. Louisiana law is very clear that drivers must wear their safety belts and these checkpoints are a tool that we are using to ensure compliance and ultimately reduce the number of traffic fatalities we see on the streets of our city.”
