Shreveport Police work downtown shooting

Shreveport Police are investigating an early morning shooting that left a local man dead.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. this morning, Shreveport Police patrol officers working in the downtown area heard numerous shots being fired and as they responded to the shooting, a call came in regarding a male being shot in the 200 block of Spring St. Upon arrival there, officers discovered 41 year old James E. Chitman suffering from numerous gunshot wounds. Chitman was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department where he was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives have learned that Chitman was involved in an altercation with a male subject at JOSH Lounge and that this altercation apparently spilled out into a parking lot there in the 200 block of Spring St. Chitman was shot to death just moments later. Investigators have received information that the subject involved in the confrontation with Chitman prior to the shooting is a black male in his thirties last seen wearing a green shirt and a green hat. Investigators also believe that a silver Cadillac may have been involved in this shooting as well.
