Police arrest child for bringing gun to school Shreveport Police have arrested a ten year old little boy who allegedly brought a handgun to school in his backpack.
At approximately 1:56 p.m. on January 26, 2010, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a report of a child with a gun at Westwood Elementary School in the 7300 block of Jewella Ave. Upon arrival, officers learned that the principal of Westwood Elementary had discovered a loaded 9mm. semi-automatic handgun inside the backpack of a male student there.
Officers began their investigation and discovered that the ten year old suspect had been involved in an altercation with another student yesterday. Other children overheard the suspect today stating he had a gun and was going to shoot the other child and reported this to a teacher who subsequently notified the principal. The principal contacted the student and located the firearm in his backpack. Officers have arrested the child and are booking him into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center on one count each of carrying a firearm on school property and aggravated assault. Officers have seized the handgun used in this crime and are working at this time to determine where the juvenile got the gun and how it ended up at school.
Anyone with any information regarding this case is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-7020 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.shreveportla.gov |
