Support Group
In June of 1999, the Shreveport Fire
Department K-9 Search and Rescue Task Force made a call to several local veterinary clinics, requesting
assistance with the care of their new dogs. Eventually, a call was placed to the Towne South
Animal Hospital. In this conversation a long lasting friendship and partnership was formed.
It was out of these meetings that the Canine
Search and Rescue Support Group was founded.
Under the direction of Dr. Kathryn McFadden,
the group was formed and chartered under a 501© 3 for non-profit status. They also started a
membership drive to involve the public, and performed several fund raiser events. They
eventually started a drive for sponsors and funding through grants and donations.
This group has
funded state of the art search and rescue equipment for the team, and has funded several training
seminars for the team. Personal protective equipment otherwise not available to the team was
also purchased.
Dr. McFadden and her group have taken a personal interest in the care and
maintenance of the canines in this team, and done so with great sacrifice to herself and the clinic.
