National
Telecommunicators Week
Each year, millions of people depend on the skill, expertise,
and commitment of public safety telecommunicators who help save
countless lives by responding to emergency calls, dispatching
emergency professionals and equipment, providing support to
citizens in distress and providing life-saving instructions.
Congress introduced the first formal proclamation, recognizing
the role of the public safety telecommunicator in October,
1991. Each year, the second full week of April is National
Telecommunicator Week, dedicated to the men and women who serve
as public safety telecommunicators.
The Shreveport Fire Department Communications Division honors
the individuals who serve in these life-saving roles with
various activities which include: theme dress days, cook-offs,
contests, gift certificates, luncheons, and other forms of
appreciation to say “Thanks!”. |
