Brian Crawford, Fire Chief

January 21, 2010 - SFD Reduced Firefighter Injuries in 2009

Department internal records show that 2009 continues to be a stellar year for the Shreveport Fire Department

During Chief Crawford’s weekly staff meeting, he announced the Department’s overall employee injuries decreased by 37% over previous year’s numbers. The Department reported 63 injuries in 2008 versus 40 reported injuries in 2009.

Most on-the-job employee injuries involved burns, cuts, contusions, dog bites, eye injury, falls, heat exhaustion, strains and sprains. Chief Crawford attributes the decline in injuries to increased job-safety awareness and extensive educational programs provided by the Department’s Safety Officers and Training Division.

“This decrease in employee injuries results in an increase of cost savings to the city of Shreveport through prudent use of equipment and manpower.” Crawford added, “Our guys set the bar for outstanding performance last year, and it is our goal to reach or exceed that same level of excellence while we serve the citizens of Shreveport.”
