January 17, 2010 - SFD Responds to Two-Alarm Apartment Fire

All escaped without injuries

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to the King Manor Apartments at 1668 David Raines Road at 9:30 PM. Fire crews arrived on scene within three minutes to find a downstairs apartment fully involved with fire and spreading to several upstairs apartments. Based on the amount of fire and apartments involved a second alarm response was called for 9:37 PM. The fire was brought under control at 10:05 with the help from the second alarm response. The extra fire companies assisted in the fire spreading to adjacent apartments and causing more property damage.

The apartment where the fire started was occupied by a female adult and her three children: a three year old, a two year old and a three month old infant. All escaped without injuries and all other occupants from the apartment building escaped unharmed. The fire started in the bedroom of the downstairs apartment and spread rapidly to the upstairs apartments and into the attic space causing heavy fire damage to the apartment building. In all ten apartments received fire and/or smoke and water damage. The apartment manager of the facility stated that the families would be placed in other vacant apartments.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
