October 24, 2009 - Early Morning Fire Destroys Unoccupied Home

The fire was contained to the involved structure

The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Legardy and Willie Mays streets in the Martin Luther King neighborhood at 4:18 AM for a reported house fire. The call originated from a home next door whose occupant stated she could hear fire burning but was afraid to open her door. Fire crews arrived on scene at 4:23 AM to find an abandoned home at 2500 Willie Mays fully involved with fire. The fire was contained to the involved structure and did not damage any other homes near it. The fire was brought under control at 4:49 AM.

The home was approximately 1000 square feet and was a wood frame structure. There were no utilities servicing the home at the time of the fire. The home was a total loss to the fire. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
