October 20, 2009 - Elderly Female Injured in Morning House Fire

Fire originated around a bedroom window

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to 3734 Flora Street at 8:51 AM this morning for a reported house fire. Crews arrived on scene at 8:55 AM to find smoke and flames coming from a bedroom window. Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and brought the small blaze under control by 8:59 AM.

The home was occupied by three adults, which included a mobility impaired 62 year old female. The 62 year old female sustained 2nd degree burns to one of her legs as she was bed ridden in the room where the fire originated. She had been rescued by family members from the room prior to fire department arrival. She was transported to LSUMC Burn Center.

The fire originated around the window of the bedroom where a small space heater was plugged in. It is still undetermined if the heater or the wiring was the cause of the fire as it is still under investigation by the Shreveport Fire Department investigators. The cause of the fire will be forwarded as soon as it is determined.
