October 17, 2009 - North Shreveport Homeowner treated and transported with non-life threatening injuries

"Never re-enter a burning home for any reason"

At 1:13 p.m. this afternoon, the Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to house fire in the 1000 block of Morris Drive in the North Highland community. Initial fire crews were on scene in three minutes to discover the northwest corner of the home engulfed in flames. The home owner was treated on scene by Shreveport paramedics and transported to Schumpert Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

It took 7 units and 20 firefighters slightly over 30 minutes to extinguish and control the fire. Initial reports indicate this fire originated in the kitchen. The owner injured himself after re-entering his home to call 911. The home was equipped with a working smoke alarm. ###
