September 29, 2009 - SFD plans Smoke Alarm Give-away to Kick–off Fire Prevention Week

This weekend, the Shreveport Fire Department plans to give-away up to 400 smoke alarms to deserving Shreveport homeowners.

Locally, the Shreveport Fire Department is gearing up to observe National Fire Prevention Week, Sunday, Oct. 4th through Friday, Oct. 10th. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Stay Fire Smart! Don’t Get Burned”.

The Department’s kick-off activities will include a city-wide smoke alarm installation drive in the Mooretown community with members of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and Lowe’s Home Improvement of Shreveport. Volunteers from these groups will meet at the Mooretown ECE School at 8:30 a.m. for a short briefing. In addition to this team of volunteers, fire professionals from 21 of the City’s 22 Fire Stations will ‘Take To The Streets’ and install smoke alarms in neighboring communities throughout the City.

“The Department’s goal is to increase awareness and provide the necessary tools for fire safety for our community”, according to Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford. “We’re going to employ all of our resources to get the word out before the peak fire season begins.”

Logistics for the Kick-off:

Date: Saturday, October 3, 2009
Location: Mooretown ECE School

    3913 Powell Street

Time: 8:30 a.m.-noon
