September 29, 2009 - Two-Alarm Residential Structure Fire Displaces Two Shreveport Families

The fire is classified as accidental

At 7:20 a.m., the Shreveport Fire Department responded to an early morning fire in the 200 block of Boulevard Street in the Highland area. Fire crews arrived on scene at 7:24 a.m. to discover heavy smoke and flames billowing from the west end of the second floor. At 7:34 a.m., Battalion Chief Frank Wright upgraded the incident to a second alarm requesting additional manpower and equipment after the flames extended into the attic. It took approximately 40 Shreveport firefighters less than an hour to extinguish flames; the flames were under control by 8:18 a.m.

The incident required the use of 5 fire engines, 2 ladder trucks, 2 heavy rescue trucks, 2 battalion chiefs and 1 medic unit.

After a detailed search of the home, fire officials report that no one was home at the time of the fire. Fire Investigator Chris Robinson determined the fire originated around the power cord of the window unit air conditioner in the upstairs southwest corner bedroom. The fire is classified as accidental.
