The Shreveport Fire Department Safety Division is under the direction of the Chief of Safety and Special Operations Scott Wolverton and is a branch of the Fire Chief’s Administrative Staff. This position's primary role is to ensure the overall safety of the men and women of the department as they perform their duties on emergency fire and EMS incidents; while conducting training; and while performing fire station duties and non-emergency services. The duties of this position include emergency incident safety, EMS safety; health, wellness, and fitness; special operations response team coordinator and other administrative duties as assigned by the Fire Chief.

Chief Wolverton is a native of Mississippi and was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in 1986 as a Security Police Specialist. He served four years active duty and two years Air Force Reserve before joining the Shreveport Fire Department in October of 1993.  Chief Wolverton graduated Fire Basic Training as a probationary Firefighter in March of 1994 and promoted to Fire Engineer in July of 1998. He became a paramedic in 1998 and promoted to Fire Training Officer in August of 2000. Chief Wolverton was promoted to his present position as Chief Safety Officer on August 1, 2005.

Chief Wolverton has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Organizational Management from Wiley College and an Associate of Applied Science in EMT Paramedic from Bossier Parish Community College.  He is married to the former Becky Hopkins of Bossier City, LA and they have three sons; Joshua, Stephen, and Aaron.
