The Administrative Division is under the direction of Assistant to the Fire Chief Fredrick
Sanders. This position provides direct and logistical support to the Fire Chief in the daily
execution of his duties; has overall responsibility for the department’s $47 million
operating budget; and supervises the Administrative Office Staff.
Chief Sanders, a native of Louisiana, and a graduate of Airline High School. He joined
the Shreveport Fire Department in March 1990. During his career in the Operations
Division, he worked as Firefighter/ EMT before being promoted to Fire Inspector in 1994.
Sanders served as post-certified Investigator in the Administrative and Criminal
Investigative Section of the Department’s Fire Prevention Division. His other fire service
roles also include positions as Bomb Technician, Arson K-9 handler and Public
Educator. On April 2, 2009, Sanders was promoted to Assistant to the Fire Chief after
serving provisionally in the position for seven months.
Chief Sanders possesses a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in
Organizational Management from Wiley College and an associate degree in Safety and
Hazardous Material Technology from Southern University at Shreveport. Chief Sanders
currently serves as the Director of the Shreveport Fire Department’s Strategic Planning
Team.
