September 30, 2010 - The Shreveport Fire Department sounds off National Fire Prevention Week with Smoke Alarms

Fire Prevention Week 2010, October 3-9

The Shreveport Fire Department is gearing up for Fire Prevention Week 2010, October 3-9. The theme for this year is “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With”. The following are a few of the events planned for this year. Fire Prevention Week kicks off in partnership with Home Depot, 110 E. Bert Kouns, with the Fire Safety House program as part of Home Depots Annual Safety Day. The area wide community is invited to attend.

Weekday activities include Fire Prevention personnel presenting at Sheriff’s Safety Town as well presenting fire safety programs throughout our community. The “Grand Finale” of Fire Prevention week is a “free” smoke detector installation event in the Highland community in partnership with Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse and other community groups. Fire Prevention recently participated with Lowes in their annual Safety Saturday program and this event is an extension of their efforts to provide help in reaching our community with information that will keep families safe at home from fires, burns and other preventable injuries.

Local organization volunteers and Shreveport Fire Department personnel will meet October 9th at The Highland Center parking lot, 520 Olive Street, from 8:00am to 12:00 noon, to install free smoke detectors in the homes in that area that need protecting. Any organization interested in assisting or participating in this event may contact the Fire Prevention office at 673-6740 for more information.
