September 21, 2010 - Near-Drowning Hospitalizes a Two-Year Old Boy

Firefighters arrived on scene to find the mother of the child performing CPR

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to the 100 block of Chelsea Street just before noon today for a two year old child that had strayed into the home swimming pool. Firefighters arrived on scene to find the mother of the child performing CPR through phone instructions from an SFD Fire Communications Officer from 9-1-1 Dispatch. Fire Medic Crews immediately began advanced life support treatment on the child securing his airway and administering medication to assist in reviving the child. Paramedics were able to get a strong pulse back on the child, however, the child was not breathing on his own. He was transported to Willis Knighton Pierremont Emergency Room and is now listed in critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit.
