September 1, 2010 - The City of Shreveport and SFD benefits from Homeland Security Grant
The SFD Hires 12 new firefighter recruits using Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Funding

On Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 9:00 a.m., Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover, Fire Chief Brian Crawford, and the Department’s Command Staff will welcome the Department’s 56th Basic Training Class during the morning orientation exercises. The training classes will be held at the Shreveport Fire Training Academy at 6440 Greenwood Road.

These 12 new training recruits were hired with funding from a $1.1 million Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant from the Department of Homeland Security. Each of the newly hired recruits will be undergo 20 weeks of extensive and grueling training to meet the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications.
