August 2, 2010 - ARK-LA-TEX FIRE FIGHTERS GIVING MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY “THE BOOT”
Annual MDA Fund Raiser August 3 Through Labor Day

Shreveport, LA, July 29, 2010 - Local fire fighters will be kicking off their annual “Fill-The-Boot” program at 1:30PM, on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Bossier City Fire Station 6, at 420 Riverside Dr.

Bossier City Mayor Lorenz Walker, Bossier City Fire Department Chief Samuel Halphen, Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Shreveport Fire Department Chief Brian Crawford will join local MDA patients and area fire fighters at this year’s “Fill-The-Boot” Kick-Off press conference.

Department representatives are very excited about kicking off their annual “Fill-The-Boot” campaign. Each year, fire fighters around the country stand on the streets collecting donations from community members in their boots. In Shreveport, fire fighters will be at major intersections, so that motorists may give their dollars and change to help fire fighters in their support of MDA.

Last year during the “Fill-the-Boot” program, the Shreveport Fire Department raised over $41,000 for area children and adults battling neuromuscular diseases. All of the donations raised through boot drives stay in this community and allow MDA to continue its local programs such as MDA Summer Camp in Bethany, LA, and the MDA Clinic at LSUHSC, every Wednesday. MDA would like to encourage everyone in the Shreveport area to please take a moment to drop some cash into a boot when you see your area fire fighters out on the streets. MDA is grateful for the continued dedication of the Shreveport fire fighters and the overwhelming generosity of the local community.
