July 6, 2010 - Vehicle in the Garage Causes Fire
Heavy Damage to Home in Southern Hills Community

Shreveport — Today at 1:28 p.m., the Shreveport Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 3000 block of Lone Oak Drive in the Southern Hills Community. When firefighters arrived on scene at 1:33 p.m., they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage. Within a matter of minutes, the fire quickly spread to the attic and dining room causing extensive damage.
It took five fire crews less than 30 minutes to extinguish the fire, which damaged approximately fifty percent of the single-story home, with the heaviest fire loss being a vehicle and the garage. Fortunately, the occupant escaped without injury after he rescued his three dogs and removed containers of 100 octane racing fuel from the garage. Preliminary interviews and evidence indicate the fire originated in the engine compartment of a vehicle.
