May 22, 2010 - First SFD Female Firefighter Passes Away Deborah Mims was hired in 1980 Fire Chief Brian Crawford regrets to inform the citizens of Shreveport that the first female firefighter hired by the Shreveport Fire Department has passed away. Deborah Mims, who was battling cancer, passed away around 2:30 am on Friday morning in her home. Deborah Mims was hired in 1980 and ascended to the rank of Captain in her career before retiring in 1999. Arrangements are being made now by the family with visitation to occur Friday, May 28th and the funeral service on Saturday, May 29th. More details will be released later. These services will be held at the New Testament United Pentecostal Church at 4400 Fairy Avenue. Fire Chief Brian Crawford and all members of the Shreveport Fire Department would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family. |
