May 7, 2010 - Arson Suspect Immediately Apprehended After Reported Fire

SFD and SPD worked together to make a quick arrest in arson case

On Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 6:52 p.m., Shreveport Firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 1300 block of Kenneth Avenue in the Lakeside Community. Upon arrival, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front windows of the single-story, wood-flamed house. Firefighters were advised by SPD that a suspect had been detained and in custody. Fire crews were able to control the fire in less than 15 minutes after arriving.

After a brief investigation, SFD Fire Investigators arrested Vernon C. King, a 61-year-old black male who frequented the area. Investigators believe King intentionally set fire to his estranged wife’s home at 1310 Kenneth Avenue. King was booked into the city jail and charged with simple arson.
