April 20, 2010 - Vacant Home Destroyed in Afternoon Fire

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to the 240 East 79^th Street this afternoon at 3:24 pm for a reported house fire. Crews arrived on scene within three minutes to find a one story wood frame home fully involved with fire. Fire crews took up an immediate defensive attack protecting the exposed homes around it and then worked to extinguish the fire with their large master streams and outside defensive attack hose lines. The fire was brought under control at 3:53 pm.

The home was completely destroyed when the roof collapsed during fire attack operations. The home was vacant and has not been officially occupied since 1989. It is unsure if utilities were still on at the vacant home. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
