March 18, 2010 - Child Rescued from Late Night House Fire

Fire crews arrived on scene within two minutes

The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched at 11:18 PM to 3146 Syphon Drive for a reported house fire. Fire crews arrived on scene within two minutes to find a one-story wood frame home with flames showing from two sides of the structure. Fire crews were notified by dispatch and upon arrival that there was a one year old child still in the home. Engine 8 was the first company on scene. Fire Captain Scott Calvert and Firefighter Corey Cummings enter the home and heard the child crying in a back bedroom. Firefighter Cummings found the child crawling on the floor and immediately removed her from the home. The child was transported to LSUMC with smoke inhalation and is presently listed in serious but stable condition in their intensive care unit.

Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control at 12:02 AM. The fire caused heavy damage to the kitchen area and the attic space. The home was occupied by one adult and four children at the time of the fire. The occupants were an adult male, a five and six year old boy, and a one and eight year old female. All had escaped except for the one year old female by the time the fire department arrived on scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
