March 15, 2009 - Fire Department Begins 53rd Basic Training Class with Former Bossier City Firefighters

The candidates in the class have already completed required certifications

The Shreveport Fire Department will begin a new training class and concept with eight newly hired firefighter candidates. The 53rd Fire Basic Training class will be a five week abbreviated version of the department’s normal 18-22 week training class. The abbreviated training is made possible due to the hiring of six Bossier City Firefighters, who were laid off due to city budget cuts; one City of Natchitoches Firefighter; and one Firefighter from South Bossier Parish Fire District. The candidates in the class have already successfully completed and been awarded certifications that are required by all fully trained probationary Shreveport Firefighters, thus allowing for the shorter basic training class and substantial savings in taxpayer dollars. The following candidates will begin their training on March 16, 2010:

John Canyon Roan Bossier City Fire Department
Christopher Michael Pascoe Bossier City Fire Department
Brady Hunter Cartwright Bossier City Fire Department
Dylan Tyler Mills Bossier City Fire Department
Brian Tyrell Jones Bossier City Fire Department
Jeremy Wayne Lewing Bossier City Fire Department
Michael Coile Natchitoches City Fire Department
Logan David Kerr South Bossier Parish Fire District

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover, Fire Chief Brian Crawford, and the Fire Department Command Staff will be welcoming and introducing themselves to the new class March 16th at 9:00AM at the Shreveport Fire Training Academy at 6440 Greenwood Road. Fire Chief Brian Crawford stated, “We are honored to bring these firefighters into the Shreveport Fire department family and look forward to their immediate service to our department and the citizens of Shreveport.”
