February 22, 2010 - I-20 Fatality Wreck
Major wreck involving 4 vehicles, including SFD staff vehicle

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to I-20 Eastbound between I-220 and Monkhouse Drive today for a major wreck involving four vehicles including a fire department staff vehicle. The collision caused three occupants from three of the vehicles to be transported to the hospital by SFD Ambulances.

One 30-year old male was transported in critical condition and was later pronounced dead at LSU Medical Center. His name is being withheld pending notification of family. One 21-year old female was transported to Highland Hospital in stable condition with no major injuries.

Shreveport Fire Department Assistant Chief of EMS, Nathan Tabor, was traveling to work when the accident occurred. The vehicle of the 30-year old male was headed westbound and appeared to have crossed over the median into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons. Chief Tabor’s car struck the vehicle causing heavy damage to both cars. Chief Tabor was in stable condition with his worst injury being a compound fracture of the right ankle. He was transported to WKN and remains there in stable condition. Fire Chief Brian Crawford stated, “I am thankful that Chief Tabor was not seriously injured and saddened at the same time that the accident resulted in a loss of life. Chief Tabor, his family, and the family of the deceased are in our thoughts and prayers.”

Several units responded to the scene including three ambulances and a sub-heavy ladder truck and rescue truck to extricate the 30-year old male patient.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Shreveport Police Department.
