Shreveport Fire Department releases 2009 Stats

Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford released the Department’s 2009 fire-related statistics to the Command Staff and public. By far the highlights of 2009 was the 86% decrease in fire deaths, over 200% increase smoke alarms installations, and the nearly 300% increase in fire-related arrests.

Chief Crawford attributes last years’ success to the continued dedicated and diligent effort of firefighters who responded to 36,701 calls as well as the creation of the Fire Safety Task Force (FSTF). The FSTF implemented recommendations included; heightened media attention to promoting fire safety; ongoing partnerships with churches and civic organizations to actively sponsor smoke alarms drives within targeted communities; and the assiduous dedication of the men and women on this Department.

“In keeping with our desire to operate with the overall mission --- to save lives, save property while protecting the environment -- we will ensure that in 2010 the citizens of Shreveport continue receive outstanding service as efficiently and effectively as possible,” according to Chief Crawford.
