February 11, 2010 - SFD slates Graduation Ceremonies for the FIRST Citizens Fire Corp Class

Shreveport Fire Department’s FIRST Citizens Fire Corp Course

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for 17 Shreveport citizens who have successfully completed the Shreveport Fire Department’s FIRST Citizens Fire Corp Course. Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford will address the class and award the Diplomas of Accomplishment.

“We are proud of these citizens. It takes a special individual to volunteer their time to serve others”, said Chief Crawford. “We encourage more citizens to get involved in the community.”

Participants completed six weeks of comprehension classroom and hands-on training which introduced them to a variety of fire and rescue techniques including CPR, basic first aid, repelling, live fire burns, and equipment operations.

Veteran Training Officers along with Specialist from each division facilitated the portions of the class 40-hour training class. After graduation, each graduate will matriculate into the volunteer role of assisting fire firefighters and first responders during pre-assigned assignments.
