SFD responds to House Fire in Lakeside Community

At 1:35 p.m., Shreveport Fire Department responded to a mid-afternoon house fire in the 1100 block of Portland Avenue in the Lakeside Community. Fire crews arrived on scene at 1:37 p.m. to discover heavy smoke and flames coming from the southeast corner of a single-story wood frame house. A male occupant escaped the fire without injuries. It took 6 units--20 firefighters -- approximately 12 minutes to contain and control the fire.

Fire officials confirmed the fire was caused by a spliced extension cord wire which ignited nearby clothing. The home is currently considered unlivable. The family has received temporary assistance from the Red Cross until more permanent living arrangements are made.
