May 1, 2009 - Two Injured in North Shreveport House Fire

Natural gas water heater ignited

Late this evening at 8:41 p.m., the Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 2442 Kemp Street in North Shreveport. Fire Crews arrived on scene at 8:46 p.m. to find light smoke coming from the rear of the structure and the eaves. Firefighters entered the structure to find the source of the fire coming from the wash room. The fire was reported under control at 08:54 p.m. One adult and one child were transported to LSU Health Sciences Center-Burn Unit.

Fire officials determined that the fire was likely caused when an open flame from a natural gas water heater ignited vapors from a gasoline container that was stored in the washroom.
