April 19, 2009 - Local Diner Suffers Heavy Damage from Afternoon Fire

Heat damage from the fire was contained to the kitchen

 The Shreveport Fire Department responded to 431-A North Common Street at 12:21 PM for a reported fire.  Fire crews arrived at 12:24 PM to find heavy black smoke coming from the Blue Collar Diner.  Fire crews accessed the building from the rear door to find the business full of black smoke with no visibility.  Fire crews managed to find the seat of the fire in the rear of the kitchen area and had the fire under control by 12:40 PM. 
 
The business was not open at the time and the owners stated they had closed the business early Sunday morning around 2:30 AM.  There were no injuries reported from the fire.  Heat damage from the fire was contained to the kitchen area but the entire business suffered heavy smoke damage.   Another business in the  same building suffered only light smoke damage.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
