December 21, 2009 - SFD Battles Two Residential Fires this Evening

Causes of both fires is still under investigation 

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to two residential fires this evening.  The first fire was dispatched at 7:29 PM to The Azalea Estates Retirement home at 516 East Flournoy Lucas.  Fire Crews arrived on scene at 7:32 PM to find a small kitchen fire in apartment 103.  The fire was quickly extinguished and all fire damage was contained to the stove and microwave of the kitchen.  The fire was under control at 7:36 PM.  There were 14 other units in the same wing as this apartment that had to be evacuated while crews removed all the smoke.  All residents were returned to their apartments except for the involved apartment.  One 40 year old female was transported to Willis Knighton Pierremont for smoke inhalation but had no life threatening injuries. 
 
The second fire was dispatched at 7:33 PM to 1132 Kenneth.  Fire crews arrived on scene at 7:36 PM to find a vacant wood frame home with fire coming from a bedroom area.  The fire was quickly extinguished and and brought under control at 7:43 PM.  There were no utilities at the home and all fire damage was contained to the bedroom and the attic space. 
 
There were no firefighter injuries and the causes of both fires is still under investigation.
