August 26, 2009 - Cochran appointed as U.S. Fire Administrator - Highest Fire Service Position

Shreveport native and Former Fire Chief Kelvin J. Cochran will be officially sworn in as United States Fire Administrator

On Thursday, August 27, 2009, the United States Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napataliano will conduct the official swearing in ceremony of Shreveport’s Former Fire Chief Kelvin J. Cochran as the new United States Fire Administrator during the Annual International Association of Fire Chiefs conference in Dallas, Texas. The swearing-in ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m.

President Barack Obama appointed the Shreveport native and former fire chief to the highest-ranking fire service position in the country. Cochran will have direct oversight of federal policy, legislation, training and education for all of the nation's fire departments.

Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford and other members of the Shreveport Fire Department will represent the City of Shreveport and the Department by their attendance.
