August 25, 2009 - Arson Suspect Arrested in Shreveport Regional Arts Council Fire
The Shreveport Police Department arrested Gary Vinson, 38 of Shreveport, and charged him with one count of Simple Arson. Simple Arson is the intentional setting of fire to the property of another without the owner’s consent. Simple Arson carries a 2-15 year prison sentence and up to a $15,000 fine upon conviction. Based upon evidence, the suspect intentionally set fire to the Shreveport Regional Arts Council Building located at 800 Snow Street. Additionally, investigators for SPD and SFD foresee the suspect being charged with other counts of arson including additional charges of Simple Arson, Aggravated Arson, and Arson of a Religious Property. “As Fire Chief of the Shreveport Fire Department, I am pleased with cooperative efforts between our Fire Arson Investigators and Shreveport Police Department detectives to apprehend this serial arsonist. It is tragic that this historical city building was destroyed,” said Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford.
