August 22, 2009 - Occupant Escapes without Injury after Clothes Dryer Ignites

The fire was contained to the utility room

Shortly after 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, the Shreveport Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 2000 block of Mattie Street in the Martin Luther King community. Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find heavy black smoke coming from front door of the home. Fire crews entered the home to find clothes burning in the dryer in a utility room on the north side of the home. The fire was contained to the utility room and extinguished within eight minutes. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

After interviewing the occupant and analyzing the fire scene, fire officials report that the fire originated in the dryer. The occupant reported hearing strange noises coming from the utility room before seeing smoke coming from the dryer and calling 9-1-1.
