August 3, 2009 - Shreveport Fire Department No. 1 Busiest in Louisiana Station #9 in Cedar Grove also identified at No. 1 in state The Shreveport Fire Department is the busiest fire department in the state and is the home to the single busiest fire station. Shreveport’s 37,143 totals calls for service last year landed the department at number one in Louisiana and 58th nationally in the Annual Fire Department Run Survey published in the July edition of Firehouse Magazine. The next closest departments in the Bayou State were Baton Rouge at 29,757 followed by New Orleans with 27,635 emergency calls. Neither department provides EMS ambulance transport service as Shreveport does. And hardly a day, no, make that an hour goes by without a fire truck pulling out of Shreveport’s Fire Station #9. The station located in Cedar Grove at West 70th and St. Vincent responded to 8,998 calls for help making them the single busiest fire station in the state. Station #9 houses 12 firefighters and four pieces of emergency equipment each of which carry their own distinction outright: Engine 9 – is the busies fire engine in the state and 14th busiest nationally
Rescue 9 – is the busiest rescue unit in the state and 7th busiest nationally with 3,068 calls Battalion 4 – is the busiest chief in the state with 1,351 calls Additionally Medic Unit 4 located at Fire Station #4 on Milam Street was the number one fire ambulance provider in the state and 39th nationally with 3,949 calls last year. “We constantly strive to go above the expectancy level of the citizens we serve and over the years this has resulted in increased disciplines that we provide and thus more calls. From fire suppression, EMS, rescue, water operations, airport fire service, and hazardous material to emergency management of manmade and natural disasters such as hurricanes and flooding, our men and women do it all and do it exceptionally well. Citizens know when they call the Shreveport Fire Department for whatever reason we’ll be there,” as evident by our more than 37,000 responses last year,” said Fire Chief Brian Crawford. |
