Accreditation Assessment

The FIRST fire service communication division in the nation to be certified by CALEA

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will visit the Shreveport Fire Department’s Communication Division from Sat., August 1 through Tues., August 4, 2009 to examine and evaluate all aspects of the Fire Communications Division.
The CALEA team is composed of public safety practitioners from out-of-state agencies who will examine all aspects of our division’s policies, procedures, management, operations, and support services by reviewing written materials, conducting interviews, and visiting offices and other places where compliance can be witnessed and verified.

Chief of Communications Kathy Rushworth says that the accreditation process is comprehensive and voluntary, and if approved, lasts for three years with continued compliance to CALEA’s standards.
“The Shreveport Fire Department’s Communication Division was the FIRST fire service communication division in the nation to be certified by CALEA. Needless to say, retaining this Accreditation Award reflects our continued commitment to professionalism and excellent service to the citizens of Shreveport and Caddo Parish,” according to Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford.
