July 8, 2009 -Two House Fires Give SFD Busy Morning

The cause of the fires is still under investigation

The Shreveport Fire Department was busy late this morning with two house fires that occurred within an hour of each other. The first was reported at 606 East 67th Street where a one story wood frame home was reported on fire at 10:25 AM. Fire crews arrived within five minutes to find smoke coming from the home. The fire was contained to one room in the home with fire damage occurring in it and in the attic above. The fire was quickly extinguished and brought under control at 10:44 AM. There were two adult males at the home when the fire occurred but both escaped without injury. The cause of the fire appeared to be accidental in nature and is still under investigation.

The second fire was dispatched at 11:24 AM to 1812 Doris Street. Crews arrived on scene there at 11:29 AM to find a vehicle on fire next to the residence. The fire spread to the home but was quickly extinguished and brought under control at 11:38 AM. The home was occupied at the time by four people who all escaped with no injuries. The fire caused light damage to the home. One firefighter suffered mild heat exhaustion from working at the fire and was transported to Willis Knighton Medical Center and released later. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
