Southern Hills Pool Swimmers Treated for Electrical Sensation

Three Transported To Willis-Knighton

At 1:53 p.m. this afternoon, an off –duty police officer working security at the Southern Hills Swimming Pool, located at 1000 Bert Kouns, called 9-1-1 to report that several pool patrons were complaining of feeling minor electrical shocks at the pool. Shreveport Firefighters arrived on scene and assessed five individuals and transported three as a precautionary measure to Willis Knighton-South hospital – where they were evaluated and released. According to Fire Department officials none the patients had serious injuries and no visible wounds. Each stated they received minor shock feelings while standing on the embankment of the wadding pool and complained of tingling sensations. Upon observation, firefighters observed minor fire damage to the pool’s pump panel. The pool was closed for the remainder of the day for inspection.

The Mayor’s Office has reviewed the situation with members of City Administration and has initiated steps to ensure a return to a safe pool environment. Sunday’s limited hours have been suspended and the pool is ordinarily closed on Monday. Next week’s operations are expected to go on as usual." “The City has hired a licensed and bonded electrician to service all electrical components of the swimming pool. As the Mayor of the City of Shreveport, the safety of our citizens and visitors is first and foremost. I pledge to have this problem resolved as expeditiously as possible. Additionally, we hope to have pool visitors back in the water and having fun by Tuesday, June 23,” said Mayor Cedric B. Glover.
